Born in Mexico, David Robinson began his career at an early age as a finalist for two consecutive years in the National Voice Competition “Carlo Morelli.” Subsequently the National Opera Company of Mexico engaged him as a soloist for opera, operetta, oratorio ana zarzuela.

Recent roles have included Don Ottavio in DON GIOVANNI, Fenton in FALSTAFF, Alfredo in LA TRAVIATA and Il Duca in RIGOLETTO. With Los Angeles Opera David Robinson performed Dritter Knappe in PARSIFAL with Plácido Domingo in the title role, and recently returned to perform El Saboyano in LUISA FERNANDA.

Being a versatile performer, Mr. Robinson made his debut this season with Lyric Opera of San Diego as The Padre in MAN OF LA MANCHA. (”The most impressive and subtle voice belongs to newcomer David Robinson...had clarity and emotional power.” San Diego Union Tribune.) He looks forward to returning to perform in CANDIDE next fall.

David Robinson, also an active performer, giving recital and oratorio performances in the United States and Euope, will be performing Mozart’s REQUIEM with the Sacramento Choral & Orchestra Society and a series of recitals in Spain with renowned Spanish pianist David Gómez.

He has performed title roles in Zarzuelas in the United States and Latin-America such as LUISA FERNANDA (Javier), LA TABERNERA DEL PEURTO (Leandro), EL BARBERILLO DE LAVAPIES (Lamparilla), LA VERBENA DE LA PALOMA (Julián), and LA DEL MANOJO DE ROSAS (Ricardo.) Some of which were recorded and broadcast for television & radio.

Other highlights include concert versions as Lenski in EVGENI ONEGIN and Stahlav in LIBUSHE with renowned Czech soprano Eva Urbanová. As well as a recording with Albany Records as Romeo in Boris Blacher’s ROMEO UND JULIA.

In Washington D.C. he performed a recital at the Mexican Cultural Institute as part of the Embassy Series. He was also invited to sing Gerontius in THE DREAM OF GERONTIUS with the North of England Festival Coir.

On tour he performed operettas such as Camille de Rosillon in THE MERRY WIDOW and Sid El-Kar in THE DESERT SONG (”The show only provides one solo for tenor, but David Robinson’s remarkable, soaring voice makes you wish for more.” Philadelphia Inquirer.)

Recipient of a Fulbright scholarship he attended a year the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadeplphia. He also attended SIVAM (Mexico City) and the Israel Vocal Arts Institute (Tel Aviv.) He has had the opportunity to study with artists of the caliber of Franco Corelli, Renata Scotto, Francisco Araiza, Nello Santi, and most recently Dianna Ruggiero and George Shirley.

He has sung with acclaimed companies throughout the United States, including the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Opera Orchestra of New York, Los Angeles Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, Sarasota Opera, Palm Beach Opera and the Washington National Opera among others.
